So off to a start
Right so I went down to the Oxford GW and instead of milling about doing sweet naff all I played a game against my good mate Dans nidz, I was running my Eldar and employed my pretty standard tactics to deal with a nid list like Dans. It was 1750.
for a start my eldar is fully meched up, Im not going into the technical bits of the lists but here's a rough guide.
ME Dan
Eldrad Tyrant with 2 gaurd
farseer 20 gaunts
5 dragons 20 hormogaunts
10 scorps 22 stealers (2 units)
10 banshees 4 warriors
6 bikes (2 units) 9 rippers
3 vypers 2 zoes
falcon 2 lictors
night spinner fex in a pod
2 serpents
So it was all pretty standard as far as terrain went lots of forests not really any buildings for me to hide behind but enough to get a cover save. we rolled annialtion and pitched battle. So against an army which has this many models that were aginst me i decided to see if i could draw a few off. so I deployed on both flanks. He dropped the tyrant and rippers in the center with zoes and hormos on one side warriros and gaunts on teh other. everythign else was in outflank/deep strike. this proved some what trouble some for me as i wanted to stick to one edge to try and prevent the other half the army from hitting me put also didn't want to be near the 22 arriving stealers. in the end i risked it and went with staying on the right flank. i used Eldrads redeployment ability to pull back to the right leaving the hormos and the zoes out on there own, ( i was pleased that the zoes wouldn't be in range for some time).
I'm afraid i can't give you a sweeping tale of the game where it was swaying to and fro and the balance was switching as it was kind of a one sided fight. one turn one the entire army opened fire after some good giuding onto the warriors and i just managed to rip the whole unit apart. unfortunatly one plucky gaunt mangaed to be just in range of the tyrant for the synapse.
Dans dice luck didn't seem to help him much either losing those warriors even after going to ground and being unable to get through anything with any guns he had. turn 2 was slightly better for dan seeing the arrival of the fex and the stealers, the fex didn't do alot, killing only 2 jet bikes before being slaughtered by my fire dragons. But the stealers gave the spinner and falcon a run for there money, although nieter was destroyed the spinner was immoilised and the falcon couldn't shoot. my turn 3 was rather impressive seeing my dragoins kill the fex meant i could fire the vypers and one of the serpents at the stealers. this gave me 8 shuriken cannons at them and believe it or not the entire unit disappeared. this gave me a rather convincing lead of 3-0 although this was the best it got to. In this turn I made a rookie mistake. I had over stretched myself and left my vehicles out of cover and without fortune. This was Dans turn to wreck me. Worse still the zoes where coming into range. the reason for this errors was I had just released the scorpions on the hormos and wanted them to survive so they got the benefits of doom and fortune instead of the tanks, this seemed to work as they wiped the hormos out to a man for the loss of one scorpion.
I have to say though I got lucky seeing both zoes fail and one being wounded by the runes of warding. The tyrant failing the difficult terrain to assault the scorpions (after having failed paroxysm and being wounded) and the lictors (which had arrived this turn next to my vypers) miss with everything told me this one was sealed. It did go a little south in this turn when another lucky stealer blew up a serpent and the gaunts over ran the dragons. even with all this carange and the stealers about to run through my line I was amazed when one remaing jetbike who had been multi assaulted by the stealers, (they assulated a serpent the bike and the dragons) roll snake eyes for his brake test and held them there preventing them from sneaking off into cover. This allowed for the bashes in the wreckage of the serpent to pile in and finish them. the scorpions on the other hand where not having such a great time as they had been mobbed by rippers to hold them up although obviously they were getting threw them without the assistance of paroxysm or the tyrant in combat. We called the game before the banshees could pile in but we both knew thats what was coming next along with the hosing of the tyrant and the lictors. i wasn't soo worried with zoes as the runes would still probably hold them at bay. this would leave just those zoes any remaing rippers and a few gaunts which wouldn't really be enough to take on the majority of the eldar as the casualties were minimal on my side.
So thats pretty much it, it ended on 4-2 to the eldar, Dan had lost 4 warriros, 20 hormogaunts, 11 stealers and a fex. I was missing a serpent and the dragons. I was worried that this game could have gone either way as Dan is very experienced 40k player but he has gotten board of competitive gaming so is now playing more fun fluffy lists. I myself was not trying to play in the most competitive of ways but obviously my list is a much more standerised powerful eldar army than his fun and fluffy nid list.
So the blog apeears to be working to some extent. 5 days in and its already got me to play a game.
Until next time
